What is a CMT?
What is a CMT?
CMT stands for Certified Massage Therapist. Each state has its own licensure laws. Each school has their own written and practicum exams and is responsible for testing each therapist to ensure they have indeed learned the proper techniques and administering of their skills. The California Legislature through the enactment of California Business and Professions Code Section 4600 et seq. has created The California Massage Therapist Council (CAMTC). It's mission is to certify, protect and educate. The CAMTC is required to:
1. Create and implement voluntary certification for the massage therapy profession that will enable consumers to easily identify credible Certified Massage Therapists (CMT) and Certified Massage Practitioners (CMP).
2. Ensure that CMT's and CMP's have completed sufficient training at approved schools.
3. Increase education and training standards consistent with other states.
At this time it is VOLUNTARY to comply with State Certification.
What Are Some Of The Goals Of Massage?
What Are Some Of The Goals Of Massage?
Massage is used to keep a healthy body in motion through preventative bodywork. Through regular sessions healthy bodies tend to stay stronger and more active. Massage is not only preventative bodywork, it is also useful in the treatment of anxiety, back pain, cancer, circulation problems, colic, depression, headaches, heart disorders, hyperactivity, high blood pressure, insomnia, sinusitis and tension among others. Although, massage is not used to cure the above disorders/diseases it does relieve the stressors that our bodies are going through during the healing process. Using a variety of techniques, massage focuses on promoting healing and well being through touch.
Will Massage Hurt?
Will Massage Hurt?
Massaging healthy tissues feels great! If any tissue damage has occurred, there can be some tenderness. The depth of the massage is discussed with the client. A massage should not be a painful experience. There are many massage techniques that can be used to work within a client's boundaries.
What If I'm Ticklish?
What If I'm Ticklish?
Many people are surprised to find that massage does not tickle. The pressure applied is gentle yet firm. If a client finds themselves to be more sensitive the therapist will work within that client's boundaries.
What Should I Expect?
What Should I Expect?
A client's comfort is the main priority with massage. Comfort is essential to aiding in relaxation and overall healing. In any of my professional massages you will always be appropriately draped during your session.
After Your Massage:
After Your Massage:
~ Some people can experience headaches and nausea following a massage. This is due to the increase in circulation and the release of toxins. It is recommended that you should drink plenty of water. Drinking water helps in the elimination of toxins and balance circulation.
~ Strenuous exercise immediately after a massage, such as jogging, aerobic or any other physically active work or sport is not recommended. Exercise the next day is great. So for today, just set back and enjoy the benefits of your massage.
~ It is recommended to pamper yourself after your massage. Draw a nice bath add some Epsom salts (helps with sore and tired muscles) or add some nice essential oils to your bath water. For ambiance place lighted candles around your bathroom and finish off with soft music. You will be set for a most enjoyable experience.
